VISIBLE AND VITAL: PROTECTING TRANSGENDER AND NON-BINARY YOUTH
According to the 2019 National School Climate Survey, 84% of trans students felt unsafe at school because of their gender. Compounded with issues of racism, transgender youth of color are more likely to be subjected to racial discrimination than their cisgender peers.
In This Session, We Covered:
-Key concepts like cisgender, transgender, non-binary, and gender queer to help deepen your understanding.
–Practical strategies for combating discrimination and creating safer spaces for LGBTQ+ students.
–Stories of resilience: Spencer Katz’s “Arriving, Finally, As My Chosen Name,” which highlighted the importance of respect, affirmation, empathy, and allyship.
–Actionable steps you can take to create a supportive, inclusive environment for trans and non-binary students.
We hope you left inspired, informed, and ready to champion equity and belonging in your community.
