Three YC Teens. Real stories, real pathways

Real Stories, Real Pathways

Curriculum & Professional Development to Support Students’ Post-Secondary Plans

about real stories, real pathways

Youth Communication (YC) is working with the NYCPS Office of Student Pathways (OSP) to provide middle and high school staff curriculum and professional development (PD) to help support students’ chosen post-secondary plans.

Funded by OSP, this program is of NO COST to participants.

The Program

YC provides programming and PD based on true stories from teens. Our programs enable schools and other youth-serving organizations to create supportive, culturally responsive learning communities.

At no cost, schools can send teachers, counselors, paraprofessionals, full-time CBO staff placed in schools, and administrators, and each participant will receive:

Choice of a set of materials for one of our middle or high school SEL programs. Each program contains approximately 20-25 fully scripted sessions built around the reading and discussion of a true, teen-written story. Each set of curriculum materials includes a curriculum guide for the teachers and 20 anthologies for students.

Four hours of professional development to orient participants to the curriculum. Sessions will be available in 1 four-hour session or 2 two-hour sessions, either remotely or in person at YC’s offices located at 242 West 38th Street in Midtown Manhattan. For a list of current dates, please see the application.

Access to follow-up professional development that includes virtual workshops, office hours, and technical support.

CTLE hours for their participation in the professional development sessions. (Certificates will be emailed to all participants in June and July 2024.)
