Grant-funded program available: SEL & Girls
|Curriculum and Educator Training for NYC Schools and Youth Programs|
Youth Communication is seeking partners for a grant-funded opportunity from the New York Community Trust to use our girls empowerment program, Real As Me.
Through this grant, Youth Communication will provide training and curriculum to teachers/ group leaders, who will lead sessions with groups of young women in their schools/ programs. The program has about 30 lessons, all based on true stories by young women. Real As Me supports student engagement, development of social and emotional skills and reading fluency, and gender equity.
In January, we will hold virtual training sessions for individuals and small groups of facilitators. All training participants will receive digital curriculum (that has been adapted for remote implementation) and will have the option to participate in follow-up trainings this spring. And, all participating organizations will have the opportunity to receive the print edition of the curriculum—and anthologies for students—mailed to them.
If you and/or your team are interested in using this resource for your girls’ programming this year, please fill out this form. Participants must:
- Send between 1-6 individuals to the 4-hour on-boarding training, and consider attending the optional 90-minute follow-up trainings;*
- Be able to implement the curriculum with groups of young women this school year;
- Complete at least 60% of the sessions within the curriculum before June 30, 2021. This totals 18 sessions. We recommend delivering these sessions 1-2 times/ week, each one lasting approximately 45 minutes; and
- Agree to complete online facilitator and student surveys by June 30, 2021.
*if you would like to pursue training for more than 6 people, please email Jgreco@youthcom.org and we will set up a separate training plan for your organization.
Real As Me was recognized as best educational resource in the SEL category in the prestigious REVERE Awards from the Association of American Publishers
